Democrats are concerned that moderate white voters, inspired so much by Barack Obama’s uplifting speeches and hope agenda to jump at the chance to vote for the first black president, are fleeing the party over the economy and a new attack ad touches on that phenomenon.
The new ad from the Karl Rove backed Crossroads GPS features a white woman who ages after she says that she voted for Obama because he “spoke so beautifully” and raised her hopes for change–but never delivered.
“I supported President Obama, because he spoke so beautifully. He promised change, but things changed for the worse. Obama started spending like our credit cards have no limit. His health care law made health insurance even more expensive,” says the woman in the ad.
Later, the woman adds, “I had so many hopes.”
The ad is part of a $9.7 million buy on stations in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Obama won 43 percent of the white vote in 2008, 54 percent of the young white vote. He currently wins only 37 percent and the youth vote is up in the air. Democrats have told Secrets that they are concerned that a white flight will undermine Obama’s vote in states like Virginia and North Carolina, which he won on 2008.
But now, some add, white voters are concerned about Obama’s handling of the economy and aren’t as eager to help Obama make history as the nation’s first two-term African-American president.

It’s funny…They can’t find jobs to get their careers started, and I can’t afford to retire. And now we’re all living together again.
