Sanders tops New Hampshire ‘Power Ranking,’ Warren a ‘flame-out,’ Buttigieg the ‘Cinderella story’

The initial New Hampshire 2020 Democratic Primary “Starting Five Power Ranking” has Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on top but fellow Granite State neighbor Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts didn’t make the cut.

In the initial Power Ranking, the New Hampshire Journal suggests that Warren’s time has come — and gone.

“Every first-round draft class has a flame-out and she could be it,” said his report’s “Coach’s comment.” The Journal’s Michael Graham worked with 10 New Hampshire political experts and analysts to develop the list.

There are no real surprises in the first ranking other than Warren’s absence in the top five, though it picks South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg as the potential “Cinderella Story.”

It said of Buttigieg, “Mayor Pete blew folks away at the Politics and Eggs event and CNN town hall. He has poise and smarts. Not sure he has legs.”

The Power Rankings:

1-Sen. Bernie Sanders. Coach’s comment, “Can’t take the guy who was the leading scorer last season off the court for the season opener – but this aging superstar could lose his spot in the lineup as the season plays out.”

2-Former Vice President Joe Biden. Coach’s comment, “Joe Biden remains the 800 lb. gorilla in the room.”

3-Sen. Kamala Harris. Coach’s comment, “Needs to show commitment to retail campaigning here in New Hampshire.”

4-Sen. Cory Booker. Coach’s comment, “Great fundamentals. Strong inside game. Good staff.”

5-Beto O’Rourke. Coach’s comment, “He’s earned this spot because of the love affair he’s had with the press and some supporters, but he won’t remain there long if he doesn’t add substance to his interactions.”
