Sessions: Friday is ‘D-Day’ to stop Obamatrade

Sen. Jeff Sessions, the top Republican fighting the House GOP leadership’s bid to approve Obamatrade, is calling on conservatives to melt the Capitol phone lines Thursday and Friday to kill passage of the trade bill.

“Tomorrow is D-Day for the citizens,” the Alabama Republican said on conservative talker Mark Levin’s show Wednesday night. “This is a decisive moment for us.”

Sessions has led the fight to make the Trade Promotion Authority treaty public. He also claims that it would include a commission that could overrule decisions made by American companies.

House leaders have been dismissive of the concerns, but Sessions said that the vote is close.

“It is razor thin, I think,” he said. “If they had the votes today, they would have called the vote today.”

He took a shot at the House leadership. “One congressman told me that he’s never seen the leadership over there in such a frenzy to pass a piece of legislation, and it offended him,” said the senator, adding, “They want to try to force it Friday if they think they’ve got the votes. So it’s still up in the air. This is a decisive moment for us.”
