Buzz: IRS fears taxpayer ‘threats’ to expanded audit army, Sen. Grassley a matchmaker

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley takes being a family man very seriously.

And that includes who he picks for his state and Washington offices. The proof: He just attended the marriage of his chief of staff Jennifer Heins and former aide Nick Davis.

On X, he bragged, “They are the 20th couple to marry after mtg in my office.” One Washington influencer added, “Statistically, you have better odds of finding a man by working in @ChuckGrassley’s office than being on DC dating apps.”

  • At the urging of President Joe Biden, Congress gave the Internal Revenue Service an extra $79 billion to hire thousands of investigators to hound taxpayers. And now the IRS is growing worried about a taxpayer backlash. The last paragraph of a Treasury Department inspector general report, for example, said that some agents expect to be threatened. The inspector general’s office of investigations said that it “expects to see a significant increase in threats to IRS operations nationwide due to the role of the IRS in implementing” the planned tax crackdown.
