Buzz: Senate forms ‘Pickleball Caucus’

The death last week of famed Washington super-lawyer Bob Bennett, 84, brought with it the justified praise for his ability to represent high-profile Republicans and former President Bill Clinton in the Monica Lewinsky case.

But he was also known among friends as a big-time fly fisherman.

He preferred to fish in Montana, where he got on the University of Montana law school’s board of visitors so that he could visit, and fish, often. He created a popular visiting speakers program, and one day, opening a conference, he said, “I went up to introduce the speaker, and there sitting in the audience, I saw the young man who’d been our guide on the Smith River a few years before.”

It was nearly 50 years ago at the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville. I taught criminal law and criminal procedure and founded the university’s legal aid clinic, which still operates to this day. I loved my time there and am thrilled to be back in the classroom.”
  • A new beer developed to help raise money for defendants in Georgia’s 2020 election case against former President Donald Trump is selling out fast. “Conservative Dad’s Revenge,” made by Ultra Right Beer, is pricey at $25 a six-pack, but CEO Seth Weathers said he can’t make it fast enough. “Sales are like nothing I have ever seen and still pouring in — we will be writing a check for many tens of thousands of dollars to the Legal Defense Fund,” he said.

  • The Senate’s new gym suit dress code has another place to let lawmakers show off. Lawmakers have a “Pickleball Caucus.” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) tweeted about it this week. She said, “Great morning with the Senate Pickleball Caucus! Loved being able to play with my colleagues and new friends…”
