Trump lead widens to 47%-43%

Former President Donald Trump has widened his national lead over President Joe Biden to four points.

In a just-released Emerson College Polling survey, Trump has maintained his 47% support while Biden has dropped from 45% to 43%.

Spencer Kimball, executive director of the poll, said early Wednesday, “Last November, Biden led Trump by four points, whereas this November, he trails Trump by four. Several key groups have shifted in the past year: Biden led at this time last year among women by seven points, which has reduced to a point this year.”

It is the latest of a string of surveys showing Trump leading Biden, who turned 81 this week. Trump also towers over Republican primary challengers.

The poll also revealed the likely reason that Biden is sinking. His approval rating is at a dangerously low 38%, the worst it has been since May 2022.

Kimball said that the addition of third-party candidates, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., changes the percentage of Trump’s lead but he maintains it nonetheless.

In a release, the poll analysis said, “With third-party and independent candidates Robert Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein added to the ballot, Trump’s support decreases five points to 42%, Biden decreases seven points to 36%, while 7% support Kennedy, 1% West and Stein respectively. The share of undecided voters increases three points to 13%.”
