This week’s Mainstream Media Scream features our old friend, MSNBC host Chris Matthews, cheering liberal predictions that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich might have disqualified himself for vice president by criticizing Donald Trump’s slam on a federal judge with an Hispanic name.
During MSNBC’s Sunday night, June 5, coverage of the Puerto Rico primary, Chris Matthews reacted to Gingrich criticizing Trump over attacking Judge Gonzalo Curiel. Matthews saw an up side:
“Maybe the good news is it will knock Newt Gingrich off the chance to be Vice President, anyway. That would be good news for the American people.”
(Gingrich called Trump’s comments “completely unacceptable,” “one of the worst mistakes Trump has made” and “inexcusable.”)
Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains the pick: “The liberal media line has been that Trump’s lack of basic political knowledge makes him unqualified to be president. No one is more knowledgeable than Gingrich about public policy and how Washington works, yet Matthews rejects him. So it’s really all about keeping conservatives out of office.”
Rating: Four out of five screams.
