Jill Biden takes up Ivanka Trump’s pro-women agenda

First lady Jill Biden, on her latest jaunt to rub elbows with a royal family, is also promoting a pro-women agenda overseas that was a hallmark of Ivanka Trump’s when she was a top White House aide.

Biden, on a mother-daughter tour through Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, and Portugal, plans to push efforts to empower women and youths as she travels through the countries, according to aides.

On Thursday, while in Jordan to attend the wedding of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Rajwa Alseif, an architect, she met with women business leaders.

“Call me Jill,” she urged.

Standing against a USAID backdrop, she talked about her challenges as a working woman in reaching out to local businesswomen who can face an uphill struggle in the Middle Eastern nation.

“I am trying to balance both jobs as a first lady and as an educator. I want to hear your stories, the challenges you face, the mentoring you did,” she said, according to White House press pool reports from the event.

She is following a path to the region well-worn by Trump, who traveled the world as her father’s emissary to women entrepreneurs.

Several times, Trump attended the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative and brought along key U.S. finance chiefs who offered advice and even funding to projects headed by women.

She also promoted a $2.6 billion Women’s Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative through the World Bank, telling one group, “Investing in women and engaging more women in the workforce is not only the right thing to do. It’s good business.”

Biden had a similar message on Thursday. “We need to spread the message, build the confidence for young women not only in Jordan but in the Arab world,” she said.

Later on Thursday, Biden and daughter Ashley attended the wedding at Zahran Palace, apparently dressed in the elegant outfit she wore at April’s state dinner for South Korea.
