Outrage over Hunter Biden avoiding jail

The plea deal that let first son Hunter Biden avoid jail despite federal tax and gun charges has outraged critics who said it was just the latest Justice Department sweetheart deal for the Biden family.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told Secrets that Biden’s plea agreement was “outrageous” but “not surprising.” He said that in cutting a deal, Attorney General Merrick Garland has pushed aside Biden family scandals to make reelection easier.

“Garland cleared the board for Biden’s reelection campaign by arresting [former President Donald] Trump and shutting down the Biden family corruption issue with a rigged plea deal,” he told Secrets.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene [R-GA] tweeted, “Hunter Biden pleading guilty to a gun charge and misdemeanor tax charges with no jail time is a stunt to make him look like he is just cooperating with the DOJ.”

She added, “Oh but hey, look at [special prosecutor] Jack Smith trying to throw President Trump in jail for 100 years for legally possessing documents he’s allowed to posses under the Presidential Records Act. We are controlled by COMMUNISTS!!”

Under the deal out this morning, Biden is to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges. He was also charged with possessing a firearm while being a user of illegal drugs, a felony, but that will be dismissed if he completes a two-year period of probation.

Several conservative Biden watchers noted that hundreds of suspected Jan. 6 Capitol rioters have been stuck in jail for months while Biden has been allowed to live in the White House and travel on Air Force One.

“Imagine if a normal citizen was a years-long drug addict who: Lied on gun form; failed to pay 2 million in taxes; got a Dem donor/Hollywood lawyer to pay it for you; Had multiple corrupt foreign business dealings. They’d be in jail yesterday. Hunter is going free,” tweeted Saagar Enjeti, co-host of Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar and The Realignment podcast.

Pro-Second Amendment groups also lashed out at what they see as a “two-tiered” justice system that punishes gun sellers for simple paperwork mistakes but leaves politically connected criminals alone.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the industry’s top representative, cited examples of harsher punishments for gun dealers convicted of minor crimes.

“Under this administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy, licensed firearm retailers have had their lives destroyed for paperwork mistakes far less egregious than buying a gun when you are a crack addict,” said Lawrence Keane, the foundation’s senior vice president and general counsel. “They are not serious about reducing gun violence, only scoring cheap political points. It is worth noting this announcement came today, after President Biden’s appearance in Hartford last Friday to call for gun control.”

Howard Kurtz, the Fox News media analyst who has been following the case, said, “Update on the charges against Hunter Biden: The plea deal says he’ll be sentenced to probation. So no possibility he faces jail time on the misdemeanor charges.”
