Buzz: ‘Electability’ a top debate issue, Martha McSally’s bragging rights, change at CFPB

More than healthcare or the economy, “electability” has emerged as the No. 3 issue in the 2020 Democratic debates.

Pollster David Winston shared with us his latest tally of debate questions and issues and said the issue had been asked 12% of the time and followed social issues and national security in the top three categories.

Surprisingly, he found that there have been no questions on Social Security and retirement or the debt.

  • Arizona Sen. Martha McSally has something to brag about. She tied veteran Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley for the most bills signed into law, and she’s a first-year senator. Of her seven bills, six had bipartisan co-sponsors, proving Washington can come together for some things. The Republican also authored more legislation — 46 bills in 2019 — than any other senator. …
  • Attorney General William Barr will be a featured speaker at the 16th annual National Capital Prayer Breakfast on March 30. He’s to receive the Christifideles Laici Award, given to those whose “good works” serve the church. …
  • Brian Johnson, the deputy director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is departing this month. He is credited with helping revitalize the office of innovation and helped Director Kathy Kraninger set up the “Start Small Save Up” initiative.
