In a strategy to even the playing field in the fall, a labor union and group dedicated to reinstalling Nancy Pelosi as House speaker are already buying up TV advertising time in 38 markets in hopes of offsetting big-spending GOP groups.
The Service Employees International Union and House Majority PAC said their goal is to counter GOP political action committees gearing up to dump millions into key House races to keep Speaker John Boehner in power. House Majority PAC is reserving nearly $20 million in ad time in 38 markets while SEIU is spending $3.7 million to expand the number to 47 districts.
Moving now lets the groups lock in cheaper ad rates and prevents GOP groups from dominating TV advertising in the markets such as Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Tampa.
