Even when it comes to when the nation will know who won today’s presidential election, America is divided.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 57% of Republicans are expecting a winner, presumably President Trump, tonight. A similar 56% of Democrats consider that unlikely.
But, the Democrats, by a margin of 61%-42%, are more likely to believe that Joe Biden will concede defeat if it looks like he lost.
The survey touches on two key storylines for tonight: Will a winner be known, and will both candidates declare victory?
With many states just beginning to count early votes and mail-in ballots, the tallies could last for several days. The Biden campaign has come out and said they do not expect a winner to be announced tonight, and the Democrats have even begun a Twitter campaign, #waitforit, to delay announcing a winner until all votes are counted. Typically, the final mail-in votes do not change outcomes.
And in another survey from the website Just the News, most voters overall expect Trump to win, a finding also seen in other surveys asking a similar question.
