A Democrat running against a key House Republican is getting socked for teaching at an Islamic school dubbed “terror high” for producing potential attackers including a valedictorian jailed for plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush.
In a new TV ad being released Thursday, Virginia Democrat Abigail Spanberger is accused of looking the other way at the Saudi-funded school while she “cashed her paychecks like nothing was wrong.”
Spanberger, who has worked to fight terrorism for the CIA and postal service, is running against Republican Rep. Dave Brat in the Virginia district that stretches from Richmond to the Washington suburbs.
The battle heated up recently when the Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC legally obtained background information on Spanberger, including her year teaching at the Saudi Academy in Alexandria, Va.
Spanberger has slammed the release of her background information, called the attacks a diversion and has highlighted her anti-terror efforts amid suggestions she is soft on it.

But Brat, in a radio interview this week, said her year as a substitute teacher calls into question Spanberger’s judgement. “I do think it is an issue,” said on the John Fredericks Show. “I think it’s a big deal, and we’ll see – we’ll see what the voters want to know the basic facts, and so far they have not been reported.”
The Congressional Leadership Fund, associated with Speaker Paul Ryan, is helping get the word out about the school and students linked to terrorism, including former valedictorian Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, who later joined al Qaeda and received 30 years for plotting to assassinate Bush.
Below is the transcript of the ad CLF is running in Richmond starting today:
What is Abigail Spanberger hiding?
Spanberger doesn’t want us to know that she taught at an Islamic school nicknamed, “Terror High.”
A terrorist breeding ground.
One graduate plotted to assassinate President Bush…
…another was arrested for trying to bring a butcher knife on an airplane.
So dangerous.
Even Chuck Schumer called for the school to be shut down.
But Abigail Spanberger cashed her paychecks like nothing was wrong.
“Abigail Spanberger likes to talk about her time as a teacher, but she doesn’t want anyone to know that she taught at a Saudi-funded school nicknamed, ‘Terror High,’” said Courtney Alexander, CLF communications director. “There’s a reason Spanberger hid her work history from voters, the school was so dangerous, even Chuck Schumer called for it to be shut down. By teaching at a Saudi-funded school that produced some of the world’s most dangerous terrorists, Spanberger exhibited incredibly bad judgement and Virginians deserve better.”
