As competitors in the Nixon-era White House press corps, NBC’s Tom Brokaw and CBS’s Dan Rather were often in a fighting stance with each other. But now, in their golden years, they have locked in a friendly embrace.
So much so, that Brokaw told Rather this week that after he joined the White House press corps, “I wanted to be the Dan Rather of NBC.”
Interviewed by Rather for his Dan Rather’s America on SiriusXM, Brokaw didn’t hold back in blowing kisses to his one-time rival.
“There is no question, Dan Rather was the big kahuna in the White House press corps,” said Brokaw, who, just as Rather, went on to anchor their networks’ nightly newscasts.
He said, Rather was the “VIP of the White House press corps.”
