Years of efforts by liberals to use tax dollars to pay “reparations” to black people for slavery two centuries ago are expected to get the green light under Joe Biden, according to a majority in a new survey.
But by a wide margin, they don’t like it.
The latest Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 28% of likely voters support using tax dollars to pay those who can prove they are descended from slaves.
Of the 40 subgroups polled, in fact, the only majority who supported reparations, at 60%, was black people. For white people, it was 21%, and for Democrats, it was just 47%.
Still, most believe that the Biden administration will be the first ever to dole out reparations.
“Whether or not they support reparations themselves, however, 53% of voters say it is at least somewhat likely that the government will approve reparations payments to slavery descendants with Biden in the White House and Democrats controlling Congress,” said the analysis.
Black leaders are expected to press Biden for reparations as a payment for voting for him in the 2020 elections.
Legislation has already been submitted that would create a reparations commission.
The total bill to taxpayers in one model could top $6.2 quadrillion.
An analyst told MSNBC that Biden owes black people. “Given the role that black people played in the election, getting him nominated and saving his campaign — there’s no reason they shouldn’t support this bill,” Mary Frances Berry, a professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania, said. “This is one of the best ways to make good on their promise to attack systemic racism and white supremacy and elevate the economic and social condition of black people.”
