Voters: Kamala Harris so bad she hurts Biden’s reelection

Laugh all she wants, but Vice President Kamala Harris can’t overcome just how terrible voters think she is at her job.

Dan Quayle bad? Worse. Spiro Agnew bad? Apparently.

When Rasmussen Reports asked likely voters, “Is she doing a better job or worse job than most previous vice presidents?” her poor showing demonstrated why some Democrats and liberal media outlets are urging Biden to replace her on his reelection ticket.

According to the new survey shared with Secrets Wednesday, 50% said she is worse than most previous vice presidents, 22% said “better,” and 24% saw no difference.

The difference, however, could have an impact on President Joe Biden’s reelection. Rasmussen asked if the former California senator is helping or hurting his chances, and by a margin of 33% to 22%, voters said she is hurting him more than helping. Notably and maybe more damaging to her reputation, 41% said Harris made no difference.

This week, longtime Los Angeles Times political columnist George Skelton suggested that Biden dump Harris so she could return to California and take lame-duck Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat.

“Biden’s problem is Harris. She’s a burden — a drag on his reelection prospects,” he wrote.

“A reader emailed me with the remedy: Feinstein could resign from the Senate and Gov. Gavin Newsom could appoint Harris to replace her. Biden then could find a more popular running mate, one more acceptable to voters as a potential successor,” Skelton added.

It’s been suggested before. Democratic pollster John Zogby, who likes Biden, said the same thing in a recent podcast that Secrets featured.

Biden, however, shows no indication that he plans any changes. In fact, in a recent memo to supporters, he said that picking Harris “was one of the best decisions I made” and that she remains “the perfect choice.”

What a change in jobs might change is how voters view Harris. Rasmussen said that her favorables are underwater. In the new survey, 42% have a favorable view of the vice president, while 53% have an unfavorable opinion of her.

The bottom line on Harris, said Rasmussen: “Most voters continue to have a low opinion of Vice President Kamala Harris, and don’t see her as a helpful running mate for President Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign.”
