CNN’s nonstop coverage of the missing Malaysian jet, which has helped the cable channel’s ratings, wasn’t nearly enough to help it catch Fox News, according to the latest Nielsen Media Research ratings.
For the second straight week, Fox dominated the ratings at a time when some expected CNN’s 24/7 coverage of the missing jet to give it a significant pop. It helped, just not enough.
According to the new ratings, Fox News Channel’s weekday average was 1.2 million total viewers, nearly double CNN’s total. It was also more than CNN and MSNBC combined. Fox also edged CNN in the critical demographic of Americans aged 25-54.
And Fox was the only cable news network to place in the top five basic cable stations.
