Mike Pence: ‘It’s always been about life’

Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday called together the administration’s allies in their battle to protect the unborn and said that under President Trump, “pro-life” extended to all policies, notably the nearly yearlong fight against the coronavirus.

“President Trump said early in our administration, and I quote, ‘Every person is worth protecting. Every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God,’” Pence said.

He added, “In this administration, it’s always been about life. And that’s been evident in the last year, as our nation has passed through this challenging time of a global pandemic.”

Pence has been a guiding force in the president’s campaign to protect life and shift the liberal, pro-abortion policies of the Obama-Biden administration. It was his connection to evangelicals and credentials as a deep conservative that helped bring them to support and believe in Trump.

Focus on the Family Vice President Tim Goeglein told us, “Vice President Pence is to human life what William Wilberforce was to abolition — tireless, confident and bold. He’s been a true champion every day in the public square. The innocent pre-born never had a better friend.”

He noted at the “Life is Winning” event that Trump made good on his promises. He reinstated the so-called Mexico City policy, which prevents funding for some foreign abortions, promoted pro-life judges, curbed funding of Planned Parenthood, a national leader in abortion procedures, ended fetal tissue research, and became the first president to address the annual March for Life personally.

“I hope you all know, and I believe with all my heart, that everyone in this room, right along with our president, has made a difference for life,” he said.

In his address at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Pence singled out some of the major players in the pro-life movement that he has worked with since his days in Congress. They included Sens. James Lankford of Oklahoma and Steve Daines of Montana, former Sen. Jim DeMint, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, longtime pro-life leader Gary Bauer, the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Values, Students for Life, the March for Life Action, and Concerned Women for America.

Without mentioning the turmoil over the election, Pence also seemed to bow to the reality that the administration was winding down, and he encouraged the pro-life community to fight on and keep the faith.

“I believe what we have demonstrated over these past four years is that when men and women who cherish the sanctity of life come together, let their voices be heard; when we rally behind great leaders at every level who will stand without apology for life, we can make extraordinary progress,” he said.

And, he encouraged, “To all the champions for life: Thank you for all you’ve done. On behalf of the president, on behalf of our entire administration, we’re grateful to each and every one of you. And it’s been our great honor to serve alongside you, and we’ll continue to fight alongside with you. For all the time that we have, and all of my days that remain on this Earth, I will always stand for life, and I’ll always stand with each and every one of you. That’s my solemn promise.”
