Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst is stepping up her assault on government waste, from empty Pentagon storage buildings to fat cat ex-presidents cashing in on books and speeches while still receiving taxpayer subsidies and freebies.
But she has a problem: Fellow members are focused on shinier projects. “It’s not one of those big sexy topics,” she said of her 8-bill package to rein in spending. “It’s really difficult to break through the news of the day,” she added.

Today she plans to push her latest initiative aimed at curbing last minute budget binging, the “End-of-Year Fiscal Responsibility Act.” Her focus is ending agencies spending federal money at the end of fiscal year just because they have it. …

Kyrsten Sinema is a long-time home brewer who also has a thing for coffee. “I’ve been brewing for years,” she said in showing off her entry at the 2019 Anheuser-Busch Brew Across America Congressional Beer Festival. Sinema said she regularly brews beer for her July birthday. For the competition, she teamed with Four Peaks Brewing Co. in Tempe, Arizona, for a coffee IPA. “I wanted a pale ale with a coffee flavor. I love coffee, it tastes so good,” she said. …
