Shock poll: Clinton in fight for independents, ‘spike in ill feelings toward her’

Hillary Clinton is locked in a battle with Sen. Elizabeth Warren for critical independent voters in New Hampshire, where they make up 36 percent of the vote, according to a new Democratic poll.

Public Policy Polling‘s latest survey found that 31 percent back Clinton and 28 percent Warren.

But her 52 percent support among Democrats helps raise her overall take of voters expected to participate in the state’s Democratic primary, the first in the nation next year. Over all, Clinton has the support of Democratic primary voters 45 percent to 23 percent for Warren.

The poll found that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is also gaining steam. He takes 12 percent in poll. “Sanders is clearly catching on some with Granite State Democrats,” said the PPP analysis.

A win is a win, but the poll found some bad news for the only Democrat in the 2016 race so far:

“Clinton’s comparatively weak performance also doesn’t reflect a spike in ill feelings toward her among Democratic primary voters. Her favorability rating is 78/10, where last January it was 86/10. There are more voters feeling unsure about her, but there isn’t an increase in those actually viewing her negatively. Her lower performance is just a reflection of voters liking other prospective candidates too. Warren’s 77/10 favorability is comparable to Clinton’s.”
