Speaker Ryan raising nearly $5 million a month

Making Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan Speaker of the House appears to be the best thing the Republican Party has done in the last two years, as he is on a fundraising tear, collecting nearly $5 million a month and delivering the bulk to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Since becoming speaker at the end of October, Ryan has raised nearly $37.9 million. That works out to be an eye-popping $4.7 million a month.

And over that period, he has sent over $25 million to the operation that helps elect Republicans to the House.

Kevin Seifert, executive director of Team Ryan, the lawmakers campaign operation, said: “Paul Ryan is committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure Republicans are successful on Election Day.”

On Friday, Team Ryan released the latest fundraising totals from the second quarter. Overall, it raised $15.6 million and transferred $11.3 million to NRCC, including $5.4 million last month.

It comes at a time when Ryan’s critics are shining a spotlight on his reelection campaign and an insurgent’s bid to unseat the popular Republican. Clearly, donors don’t share any concern about Ryan’s future as House speaker.

Seifert said in a statement that Ryan “is raising resources at a record clip and has put the NRCC in the best cash on hand position in their history. These funds will provide the tactical support for incumbents and challengers to be successful.”
