Cancelled: Lawyers for Kavanaugh accuser to host Democratic fundraiser for Sen. Baldwin

In a strident display of Washington politics, the lawyers for the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were high schoolers were to host a fundraiser for embattled Democratic Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin, according to an email to donors.

But as it became public, the event was canceled, according to CNN.

The event was to feature lawyers Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, who are representing Christine Blasey Ford, and was scheduled for Oct. 1 somewhere near Dupont Circle in D.C., which is where the lawyers have their office.

“Your support for Tammy’s campaign has been wonderful and we really appreciate the help. We are fast approaching the final weeks and we could use your help one more time,” said the email provided to Secrets.

“Please Join Debra Katz, Lisa Banks and End Citizens United for Cocktails and Conversation with U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI),” it added.

The now canceled fundraiser could play into Republican claims that the charges leveled against Kavanaugh by Ford and quickly embraced by liberals are from the Democratic playbook to kill President Trump’s nominees.

After telling her story to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and the media, Ford has balked at testifying on Monday, raising concerns that it is part of a party orchestrated tactic to delay and potentially doom a vote to confirm Kavanaugh to the court.

Kavanaugh, backed by dozens of women he has worked with and even dated, has denied the charge but is now in limbo because of it.

Baldwin’s Republican challenger Leah Vukmir ripped the fundraiser featuring Ford’s lawyers.

She said, “In the most despicable manner, Senator Baldwin, who opposed Judge Kavanaugh within 48 hours of his nomination and refused to meet with him, will be holding a political fundraiser with the lawyers of Dr. Ford who is now accusing him of sexual assault. Baldwin and her Democrat colleagues will take advantage and fundraise off any situation — even the most egregious. This November, it’s imperative that we fire Baldwin who always puts herself before Wisconsin.”

In the email from Baldwin’s campaign, the senator is described as “one of 10 vulnerable incumbent Democratic senators up for re-election in a red state that Trump won.”
