Buzz: Hill staffers want union, MAGA CPAC hat, DeSantis spokesperson to the rescue

House and Senate staffers are getting closer to forming a labor union to improve working conditions and pay.

The “Congressional Workers Union,” so far an anonymous online group, said it is in “close discussions with several unions regarding potential affiliation and representation.”

Some House and Senate members have raised concerns about unionizing aides. But those behind the effort said they hope to tie their campaign to Vice President Kamala Harris’s bid to help Big Labor sign up half the full-time adult workforce in the United States.

  • The daily media covering new Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin have been on such a relentless beat down that the spokeswoman for another regular GOP target of the press has started to offer advice on Twitter. Christina Pushaw, who speaks for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, said the media are ripping Youngkin with “stupid non-stories” to distract from his successes. “Some friendly advice from someone who’s been there before: Do not apologize. Do not compromise. Hit back harder. Always be on offense,” she advised.

  • Team Trump, which seems to announce a new fundraiser every day as he builds a 2024 war chest, has seized on this month’s Conservative Political Action Conference to make some money. In one email, they offered a meet and greet with former President Donald Trump and attendees at the Florida event. And in another, they are running a $5 contest for a specially made and signed MAGA hat. “We have NEVER done this before. For the first time EVER, we released a CPAC-EDITION MAGA HAT. Only one of these hats exist, and President Trump even signed it for you,” said the marketing email.
