British Prime Minister Theresa May said, ‘I look forward to working with President-elect Donald Trump.” She added, “Britain and the United States have an enduring and special relationship based on the values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. We are, and will remain, strong and close partners on trade, security and defense…building on these ties to ensure the security and prosperity of our nations in the years ahead.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “Canada has no closer friend, partner, and ally than the United States. We look forward to working very closely with President-elect Trump, his administration, and with the United States Congress in the years ahead, including on issues such as trade, investment, and international peace and security. The relationship between our two countries serves as a model for the world. Our shared values, deep cultural ties, and strong integrated economies will continue to provide the basis for advancing our strong and prosperous partnership.”
And Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “Russia is ready to restore relations with the U.S.”
In his victory speech, Trump signaled a desire for good world relations. “We will get along with all nations willing to get along with us,” he said.
That might mean frosty relations with France, however, especially after French President Francois Hollande said Trump’s election “opens a period of uncertainty.”
