The Trump reelection effort raised over $2.4 million in an unusual State of the Union Address pitch that offered donors a chance to see their name on a livestream of his speech.
The Republican National Committee and the reelection campaign received some $1 million more than last year and from 76,000 donors, said officials.

The fundraising effort was promoted by the president’s family in emails to supporters. Both Eric Trump and his wife, Lara, encouraged donors to participate.
“Tonight my father’s giving the State of the Union Address. Have your name broadcast LIVE during the speech. Donate in the NEXT HOUR,” emailed Eric Trump.
Lara Trump, in a separate email, wrote: “This is an unbelievable opportunity for you to show every single critic in the world, that you publicly support the greatest president ever. When the president talks to me about our great country, he always says that what makes America so great is YOU – the hard-working American. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to have your name cemented in history!”
Those behind the effort said the surge in donations from $5 to $2,700 was a sign of support for Trump.
As the president began his speech Tuesday night, officials said that they had received over $2.4 million from over 76,000 individual contributors. “And the list is still growing,” said an official.
Last year, a similar effort raised $1.5 million from 75,000 donors.
“As a result of the RNC and the campaign’s joint efforts in support of the president’s reelection, we have surpassed last year’s total by nearly $1 million and matched the number of supporters who have elected to have their name appear on the official livestream,” said a GOP official.
