Coming on the heels of a poll revealing that the nation feels the least safe since 9/11, a new survey finds that 67 percent of Americans believe another attack is coming, but this time from home-grown terrorists.
Rasmussen Reports finds that 34 percent say it is “very likely” that another strike will come within 10 years, 33 percent believe it is “somewhat likely,” and just 20 percent call it unlikely.
The nation also doesn’t believe President Obama when he suggests that the U.S. has al Qaeda on the run. Asked if the terror group was stronger or weaker than before the 9/11 attacks, 54 percent said stronger or about the same. Only 29 percent said the terror organization founded by Osama bin Laden, now dead, was weaker.
The anniversary of the deadly attacks that killed more than 3,000 in New York, the Pentagon and on United Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pa., is Thursday.
While Americans foresee another attack, they aren’t expecting it to come from outside the country. Some 51 percent told Rasmussen that they believe it will be “a domestic terrorist attack,” and 26 percent “an attack from terrorists living outside the country.”
However, the poll did not show if Americans felt a domestic attack could come from somebody linked with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or al Qaeda.
