The NRA has joined with President Trump and others to decry protesting professional sports figures, mostly in the NFL, who continue to take a knee to protest the National Anthem.
National Rifle Association President Oliver North, in a new video titled “We Stand For Our Flag,” said that protesting players are turning their backs on the flag, police and troops who gave their limbs and life “so you could spend your Sundays playing games.”
The video is a hard hit against the NFL and the players. It shows images of a military cemetery and tough words from arguably the most famous living retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel. Recall that North was sentenced to probation — later vacated — for defending former President Reagan’s policies.
North’s message is the latest in the NRA’s Freedom’s Safest Place campaign.
The transcript:
When you take a knee during our National Anthem, you disrespect the men and women who lost their limbs so you could spend your Sundays playing games.

When you dishonor our flag, you turn your back on the families of heroes serving on the frontlines, whose sacrifices make it possible for cameras to focus on your disgraceful protests.
And when you teach children that our police are the enemy, you turn your back on the very law enforcement that keeps your stadiums safe.
We fight for the First Amendment as much as the Second… But while you use it disgracefully, we use it to tell the truth.
We stand for our country. We stand for our veterans and our military. We stand for our law enforcement. And we stand for flag. Because we’re still freedom’s safest place.
