The nation’s largest gay lobby Thursday protested the new Chick-fil-A food truck in downtown Washington with several posters that read “My boyfriend used to like your waffle fries,’ and “Dear Chick-fil-A stop making unicorns cry.”
The fast food chain recently came out against gay marriage, angering the Human Rights Campaign and drawing sneers from the mayors of Boston and Chicago. Washington’s political establishment hasn’t taken a position on the company’s marriage statement, so the lobbying group sought out the new Chick-fil-A truck to protest.
“HRC is sending a loud and clear message to Chick-fil-A: we will not rest until your consumers know that you take their money and hand it over to groups that actively work to demonize LGBT people,” said HRC Vice President of Communications Fred Sainz.
They provided pictures on their Flickr stream of some 30 HRC supporters and their posters. Others included:
— “Give a cluck about equality. Don’t eat Chick-fil-A.”
— “Don’t be a chicken. Support equality.”
— “Your chicken sandwich comes with a side of homophobia.”
