Smack: Smithsonian features Clinton impeachment

More than a year after stripping the exhibit of former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment virtually clean, leaving glue marks where items were once displayed, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has updated it with a dramatic photo of a grim-faced Clinton testifying about his relationship with former intern Monica Lewinsky.

The photo is in addition to another of the House impeachment “managers” and other items such as the graphic report from Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr.

It sits beside an even larger portrayal of the impeachment proceedings against former President Richard Nixon, though he resigned before being impeached, unlike Clinton, whose House impeachment was rejected by the Senate.

As Hillary Rodham Clinton ran for the presidency, the exhibit was empty of most items about her husband, like a gavel used during impeachment proceedings and many other items provided by former Rep. James Rogan, the lead House impeachment prosecutor.

From the new exhibit.

Rogan, now a California judge, told Secrets that he received the items three months ago, even though they were removed over a year and a half ago.

The exhibit is part of the larger American Presidency section known most for the display of first lady gowns.
