Even split: 43% for, 43% against impeachment, just 10% see ‘removal’

With the number of House Democrats supporting impeachment hearings against President Trump reaching 112, just shy of a majority, the nation is more divided than ever on the issue, according to a new survey.

Less than a week after former special counsel Robert Mueller failed to deliver Democrats with an impeachment smoking gun during two House hearings, voters are evenly divided.

In pollster Scott Rasmussen’s survey, 43% support impeachment and 43% oppose it.

And is typical in any political poll, the divide is enormous among partisans, with 81% of Republicans opposed and 77% of Democrats in support.

“Those numbers are little changed from a week ago when 42% favored impeachment and 44% opposed it. This confirms other public polling data suggesting that former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress had little impact,” said Rasmussen in his polling note shared with Secrets.

The push for impeachment by the Democrats, and the dismissal by some of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s resistance, has led the Republicans to dub this the “Summer of Impeachment.”

“Heading into the August recess, there’s only one thing on House Democrats’ minds: pandering to their radical base by trying to impeach President Trump,” Chris Martin, the director of rapid response for the House Republican Conference said in an emailed note that even included a graphic done to look like Seinfeld.

But while the nation is divided on moving to impeach, there is little expectation that it will result in Senate conviction and the removal of Trump.

“Also holding steady is the fact that just 22% believe the president even somewhat likely to be impeached and removed from office. Only 10% think it’s Very Likely,” said Rasmussen.
