Dems: Cruz is ‘everything voters hate about Republicans’

Democrats reacted swiftly to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s entry into the 2016 presidential race, dubbing him the epitome of what they hate about Republicans.

Cruz is “everything voters hate about the modern Republican Party in one candidate,” said Brad Woodhouse, President of American Bridge 21st Century.

The Democratic Party said his announcement sent shivers through headquarters. “If you’re like us,” said the Democratic National Committee about Cruz’s announcement, “just reading that phrase probably sent shivers down your spine or produced a pretty serious roll of the eyes.”

Since coming to Washington, the Democrats have had a bull’s-eye on Cruz, and the conservative firebrand embraces the attention.

But now that he is in the 2016 race, the Democrats and Democratic surrogates are turning up the heat on Cruz.

On Sunday’s Meet the Press, for example, Democratic California Gov. Jerry Brown said of Cruz, “That man betokens such a level of ignorance and a direct falsification of the existing scientific data. It’s shocking and I think that man has rendered himself absolutely unfit to be running for office.”

The DNC hit his policy moves and promised to block his rise to the Oval Office. “As of this moment, Texas Senator Ted Cruz is officially running for president, and if we don’t do everything in our power to stop him, the possibility of President Ted Cruz could become a reality,” warned the party.

American Bridge has devoted a chapter to Cruz in their “2016 Scouting Report” on the candidates. And it isn’t pretty for the Democratic view.

“Ted Cruz shut down the government in a tantrum, opposes marriage equality, denies climate change, and opposes a woman’s right to choose even in cases of rape or incest,” said Woodhouse. What’s more, he noted, many of Cruz’s positions are being endorsed by the rest of the GOP field.
