President-elect Trump is still answering his personal cellular phone — and he doesn’t screen the callers.
Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, revealed that he often calls Trump directly. What’s more, Corker’s phone blocks caller identification, so Trump doesn’t know who’s on the other end.
Still, he answers.
According to Corker:
“The president (elect), as you know, still answers his cell phone number. It’s an amazingly accessible group of people. It’s really beyond belief. Sunday, I needed to talk to the president about something. I called him on his cellphone, he answered and we talked. And by the way, my phone says no caller ID, so I’m not saying it has anything to do with me. Nobody knows who it is that’s calling when I’m calling.”
And, no, Corker did not offer up Trump’s number.
In a media breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, Corker also said that he has unprecedented access to all Trump top aides, and had just talked with Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner early Friday morning.
“They are incredibly accessible and the relationship is very good,” said Corker.
He described a Trump team that likes to make decisions fast.
“It’s highly refreshing that you are able to deal with people, get an answer, and move on. I don’t think there’s likely been a White House like this maybe ever, but certainly in modern history,” he said.
Corker also said that he hopes that Kushner is able to remain close to Trump. Reports suggest that Kushner will have an office in the West Wing. Corker described Kushner as smart and respectful and somebody Trump relies on. “Jared Kushner is a valuable resource to this president,” said Corker.
