De Blasio, London Mayor Khan team to attack ‘ignorant’ Trump

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has teamed in an international axis with newly elected London Mayor Sadiq Khan to fight Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, charging that his views are dangerous to the world.

De Blasio opened a press conference praising Khan, and revealing that he called the new mayor Tuesday during which Trump, his plan to ban Muslims and his exception for Khan came up.

“A couple of hours ago, I spoke to the new mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and really had a wonderful conversation, he’s a very impressive guy who won an outstanding victory, a huge vote of confidence in him by the people of London,” said de Blasio.

“There was a poignant moment in the conversation where he talked about Donald Trump, and the fact that according to somebody who is obviously going to be the nominee of one of our major parties for president of the United States, the mayor of London would not be allowed to come to this country,” said de Blasio.

After noting Trump’s exception for Khan, he said “that just puts the lie to the whole approach that Trump has taken, that we need to respect all people.”

Then he offered a quote from Khan that he wanted Americans to hear: “Trump’s ignorant view of Islam could make both of our countries less safe. It risks alienating mainstream Muslims and London has proven him wrong.”

The mayor of New York also said that invited the new mayor of London to the Big Apple.
