Next al Qaeda target: Rail

Easy on, easy off, one of the beauties of traveling by rail, could go the way of horrific air travel if the remaining strategists of al Qaeda wake up to that easy target.

U.S. anti-terrorism experts reveal that unprotected rail lines that carry freight and passengers are open to attack. But, they add, so far the terrorist network which used jets for the 9/11 attacks and small boats to hit Navy ships hasn’t discovered trains.

Rail, said Michael Leiter, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, is “very, very, very vulnerable.”

Worse, he explained at a counter terror conference, that al Qaeda knows that rail is an easy target. But, he added, the terrorists are just “not focused on it” yet.
