Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is hitting out against President Joe Biden after leaving the country on vacation to the Caribbean even as dozens of people have died due to blizzard conditions in Buffalo, New York, earlier this week.
Biden’s leave of absence comes as the country is also grappling with thousands of canceled flights due to inclement weather in several states as well as the need to avert a government shutdown by signing Congress’s omnibus spending bill, which the president did after having flown to Saint Croix, where Biden was staying over the holidays.

“Basically what it says is Joe Biden doesn’t give a rip what’s happening to the American public,” Huckabee told Fox News. “I mean, he could have at least filled up Air Force One with a bunch of people from Buffalo, New York, and taken them down to the U.S. Virgin Islands for some time in the sun. That would have been nice.”
At least 39 people have died in Buffalo due to the blizzard conditions that overcame the state late last week, making it the deadliest snowstorm in the New York city since 1950, according to officials. However, that number could rise as National Guard members continue their welfare checks on homes that lost power from the storm.
Of the 39 who have died, 17 were found outside in the storm and another four died while shoveling or snowblowing, according to officials. Three people died due to delays in emergency medical services, 11 were found in their homes without heating, and another four were found in their vehicles.
Huckabee also hit out against Biden for signing the government’s funding bill while in Saint Croix.
“[They] went with it all because they said it was an emergency,” Huckabee said. “It’s such an emergency that Biden took off and let that bill sit there on his desk.”
Biden touted the signing of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill on Thursday, which included several additional provisions Democrats sought to pass before the end of the year. Among these provisions were increased military aid to Ukraine, renaming federal buildings after top lawmakers, and more.

“Today, I signed the bipartisan omnibus bill, ending a year of historic progress,” Biden said in a tweet on Thursday. “It’ll invest in medical research, safety, veteran health care, disaster recovery, VAWA funding — and gets crucial assistance to Ukraine. Looking forward to more in 2023.”
