Ahmed Mohamed, also known as “Clock Kid,” has just won another title: “American Muslim of the year.”
The Council for American-Islamic Relations, the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the country, recognized Mohamed at a ceremony in Arlington, Va.
“I just want to stop discrimination for everyone, not just for religious, but for all races as well,” Mohamed said at the event.
His award was in the shape of a clock.

The Muslim ninth grader from Texas made national headlines last month following an incident where authorities mistook a homemade clock he brought to class for a bomb. Some have said the misunderstanding was a result of racial profiling.
Since then, the teenager has received all kind of publicity, including a Twitter hashtag #Clockboy and a personal invite from President Obama to visit the White House.
“Cool clock, Ahmed,” tweeted the president. “Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”
Mohamed is expected to attend “Astronomy Night” at the White House on Monday, though the situation has become further scrutinized since Mohamed reportedly met with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, a wanted war criminal charged with genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes by the international Criminal Court. Mohamed’s father is a Sudanese immigrant who came to the United States. He once ran against al-Bashir for the presidency.
