Biden regrets not entering 2016 race ‘every day’

Vice President Joe Biden says the decision he made not to run for president in 2016 is something that bugs him on a daily basis.

“I regret it every day,” Biden told NBC Connecticut, adding “But it was the right decision for my family and me.”

Biden announced he would not seek the Democratic nomination in October, after reportedly flirting with the idea for months. Ultimately, the 73-year-old said “the window has closed” on what could have been his third run for the presidency. The grieving process over the recent death of his son Beau Biden took too long to mount a campaign.

Despite not entering the 2016 race, Biden said he is still “deeply involved.”

“There’s a real robust debate between Hillary [Clinton] and Bernie [Sanders],” he said. “As there would have been if I was in the race,” he added, apparently omitting the third Democratic candidate in the race, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.
