National Security Council spokesman John Kirby will join White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for Wednesday’s press briefing following the Pentagon’s confirmation that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was hospitalized for an infection following surgery to treat prostate cancer.

Austin was diagnosed in December 2023 and underwent a prostatectomy, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center doctors said. White House and Pentagon officials were notified days after Austin was hospitalized.
The briefing will be held at 1 p.m.
