President Joe Biden voiced worry about King Charles III on Monday after Buckingham Palace announced the British monarch had been diagnosed with cancer.
Biden, who spent the past two days campaigning on the West Coast, made his comments while speaking to reporters in Las Vegas, Nevada. The president will bring his 2024 reelection push back to the East Coast later this week.
“I’m concerned about him,” Biden, who is 81 years old, said. “Just heard about the diagnosis.”
He added that he planned to speak to the king soon, “god willing.”
Charles had been in the hospital for a routine examination when the cancer was identified, and Buckingham Palace wrote in a statement the king opted to make his diagnosis open to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer. He is expected to halt all public appearances for the duration of his treatment.
Biden did not attend Charles’s coronation in the spring of 2023 but did meet with the king when he traveled to the United Kingdom in July of that same year.

Prince William, Charles’s son with the late Princess Diana, is next in line for the throne.
