Biden won’t seek redactions in classified documents report

President Joe Biden will allow the report on his handling of classified documents to be released to the public without redactions, the White House said Thursday.

White House spokesman Ian Sams said the unredacted report will be released “in keeping with [the president’s] commitment to cooperation and transparency throughout this investigation.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland sent a letter to Congress on Wednesday confirming that special counsel Robert Hur’s report into Biden’s classified documents was complete, and stated his intent to release “as much of the Special Counsel’s report public as possible.”

Hur’s report is not expected to produce criminal charges, but Democrats have reportedly been worried that the report with include embarrassing photos and details.

The special counsel’s investigation has been ongoing for about a year, after classified documents were found at the Penn Biden Center think tank in Washington and at the president’s home in Wilmington, Delaware. Though the first documents were found in November 2022, the public did not learn of them until two months later.

Biden aides are reportedly most concerned that former President Donald Trump could use the report and any accompanying photos to create equivalency with his own classified documents charges.
