White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is holding a press briefing after Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), one of the GOP’s longest-standing leaders, announced he would not run for reelection.
LIST: THE EXECUTIVE ORDERS, ACTIONS, AND PROCLAMATIONS TRUMP HAS MADE AS PRESIDENT
Leavitt will likely take questions regarding McConnell’s retirement announcement and other issues during a 1 p.m. briefing on Thursday. She’ll also address Trump’s recent comments critical of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Donald Trump has long sparred with McConnell over differences in policy and strategy approaches. The Kentucky Republican was first elected to the upper chamber in 1984 and led Senate Republicans from 2015 to Jan. 2025.
