Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has advised President Donald Trump to implement a “full travel ban” from countries that are “flooding” the United States with criminals.
Noem announced late Monday that she had met with Trump and called on him to ban people from an unspecified number of nations.
“I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies,” Noem wrote in a post to X.
“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom — not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS,” Noem said. “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
Trump reposted her message on his social media platform, Truth Social, but did not add an additional comment.
Noem’s call comes five days after an Afghan national allegedly shot two West Virginia National Guard members who were on deployment in Washington, D.C. One of the members, Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed. The second, Andrew Wolfe, 24, has been seriously injured.
The suspect was arrested and identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a citizen of Afghanistan who worked with the CIA during the war and was airlifted out of Kabul by U.S. forces in 2021. He was approved for asylum under the Trump administration in April, stirring up new concerns about how he was vetted and when he was radicalized to carry out an attack.
Following the shooting last Wednesday, Trump called for the U.S. to “reexamine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden” and “take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country.”

On Thanksgiving Day, Trump posted on social media that he planned to “permanently pause” immigration from “third world countries.”
Trump first imposed a travel ban on seven countries in 2017 and implemented a new travel ban in June on 12 nations.
