The White House was put under lockdown after a person was shot by law enforcement and a bystander was injured near the building on Monday.

Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn said the man was armed and was shot after firing at police, but he added that he had no information on the suspect’s condition. Quinn said a minor was shot but was not seriously injured.

The suspect was spotted by plainclothes agents in the area near the White House complex around 3:30 p.m. with the imprint of a weapon. When uniformed Secret Service agents approached him, he attempted to flee, Quinn said, and fired at the agents, who fired back.

Quinn said he could not confirm whether the minor who was shot was hit by the suspect. “We’ll let the doctors figure that out,” he said, but added that “investigators believe he was struck by the suspect.”

President Donald Trump was at the White House during the shooting, but his schedule was uninterrupted. No officers were hurt in the shooting.

“U.S. Secret Service personnel are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. At least one individual was shot by law enforcement after an armed confrontation. He was transported to an area hospital; their condition is currently unknown,” Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service, told the Washington Examiner in a statement.

Though Trump and those at the White House weren’t in any immediate danger, the incident comes amid heightened security concerns following an assassination attempt against the president last month. The attempted assassin was subdued while making a run for the room where Trump was attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
