Melania Trump rarely enters the political arena, preferring to keep a lower profile than previous first ladies. She did attend the 2016 RNC convention, when her husband first ran for president, but was accused of plagiarising the speech Michelle Obama gave in 2008, for which her speechwriter later took the blame. 

The first lady’s 2024 RNC convention appearance saw her enter the convention alone and accompanied by classical music, a stark contrast to the rest of the political event’s playlist filled with rock and country music. 

Despite her low profile, the first lady has, on occasion, fought back against political opponents, having rebuked a comment made by ABC host Jimmy Kimmel following a remark he made on air two days before an attempted assassination against the president at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. 

RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in a previous statement announcing the RNC’s programming schedule that “Over two action-packed days, we will take Americans through the defining issues of our Party’s agenda and what is at stake in November.”

She also publicly denied claims linking her to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein with a surprise press conference, saying at the time that the “lies linking me with the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein need to end today.”

“Each hour will have its own theme, its own message, and its own voices, building toward President Donald Trump’s vision for the next chapter of American greatness,” Gruters said. “This will be unlike any political convention America has seen before.”

There is expected to be a total of 109 items and speakers across both nights of the convention, according to the national committee.
