Obama Encourages Savannah Guthrie to Drink Up Before Full Interview

President Obama gave a pre-Super Bowl interview in the White House kitchen to NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, where the two talked about (and drank) beer:

Obama “agreed to spend a few moments with us live,” said Guthrie, explaining that the rest of the interview will be taped and aired for tomorrow’s Today Show. “We’re in the White House kitchen, where, among other things, you brew beer.”

Obama said, “We make beer. First president since George Washington to make some booze in the White House.”

The president and Guthrie later sampled the honey beer. It’s “made from honey from Michelle’s garden,” said the president. “That’s how this originally came about. Somebody in the Navy mess figured out that you could make beer using honey. So let’s taste it.”

Guthrie assured viewers she wasn’t going to be drinking much. “I’m going to take a tiny sip.

Obama ended the pre-Super Bowl interview by getting ready for the longer sitdown. “Savannah, enjoy the beer,” he told the Today Show co-host. “You should finish it before our full interview, it’ll make it go smoother.”
