This week, fired White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman started a firestorm of controversy with her tell-all book, Unhinged, slamming President Trump’s mental state. After releasing a series of recorded conversations with ex-colleagues, Trump lashed out, calling Manigault Newman a “dog” and a “crazed, crying lowlife.”
In what some have called an effort to deflect the press coverage surrounding Newman’s book, President Trump revoked a security clearance belonging to former CIA Director John Brennan, claiming his “erratic behavior” should disqualify him from having access to sensitive information.
A dozen former intelligence officers condemned President Trump’s “ill-considered and unprecedented remarks and actions” and said security clearance decisions should be founded on national security instead of “political views.”
Trump also battled with local D.C. politicians as he announced the cancellation of his military parade this year, much like the one he’d attended and admired in France. The Department of Defense had announced earlier that the parade was postponed until 2019 after reports that it could cost the federal government as much as $92 million.
