Media and staffers fawn over pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s White House visit

Olivia Rodrigo arrived at the White House to administration staffers and media figures alike fawning over the pop star in her plaid dress and sky-high heels.

President Joe Biden recruited Rodrigo, a former Disney Channel star, to promote vaccinations among teenagers. She will appear in videos that will be featured on her social media pages, which have millions of followers, as well as the White House social media accounts.

While young people are statistically safer than the elderly from contracting the coronavirus or exhibiting symptoms, an NBCLX/Morning Consult poll in March showed people ages 18 to 34 are particularly apprehensive about getting the coronavirus vaccine.

The group represents the most likely age bracket to say it will either not get vaccinated (23%) or does not know (21%). Generation Z adults, who are 18 to 23 years old, showed the most disinterest in getting the vaccine.

Rodrigo, who celebrated her 18th birthday on Feb. 20, rose to prominence during the coronavirus lockdown, which she credits in the bio of her website for helping her focus on her music.

“I spent most of the quarantine writing songs in my living room and producing them in a garage, including ‘drivers license.’ It was always a really special song to me but I never expected the response it got,” her bio reads. “It absolutely blew my mind and I still to this day refuse to believe it all actually happened.”
