‘Tehran is burning,’ Israel defense minister says after oil depot strikes

Israeli Defense Minister Israeli Katz confirmed his earlier warning on Saturday that the state of Tehran “will burn” if Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei continued his counterattacks.

In a short post on X, Katz wrote, “Tehran is burning,” a statement that follows Israeli strikes on two oil depots in Iran.

Specifically, Israel hit the Shahran oil depot in western Tehran, along with another oil facility in southern Tehran. Footage of the aftermath shows massive fires raging in the distance following the strikes.

The Shahran depot is one of Iran’s key fuel sites, reportedly consisting of 11 tanks that produce nearly 2 million gallons of oil a day.

Despite the visible damage to the depot, Iran insisted little was lost after the strikes.

“The fuel volume in the targeted tank was not high, and the situation is fully under control,” Iran’s oil ministry’s SHANA news agency said.

Katz had earlier warned the ayatollah that Tehran would “burn” if missile strikes directed at the “Israeli home front” continued.

Iranian strikes largely continued despite the warning.

At least five people were killed and 24 injured in Israel’s Northern District on Saturday night after an Iranian attack on a four-story building. Four people were rescued from the rubble, but two later died.

Another three people, including a 10-year-old boy, were killed and 130 injured after an Iranian missile attack on central Israel early Sunday local time.
