Andrew Cuomo mandates New York businesses let at least 50% of employees work from home over coronavirus

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said businesses in the state are now required to allow at least half of their workforce to work from home in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“Today, we are announcing a mandatory statewide requirement that no business can have more than 50% of their workforce report to work outside of their home,” Cuomo said Wednesday.

He said the mandate exempts “essential services,” including grocery stores, pharmacies, healthcare, and shipping. The governor added that he would sign an executive order putting the requirements into place.

Nearly 2,000 cases have been confirmed in New York, according to Johns Hopkins University. There have been 16 deaths in the state.
