Trump’s trade agenda will fuel an economic boom

After four years of weakness, global chaos, and a White House more interested in apologizing for America than fighting for it, the world is again hearing loud and clear: the United States of America is back, and the apology tour is over.

The President Donald Trump Trade Doctrine means fighting for fairer trade, gaining access to foreign markets for American-made and grown products, and putting American workers first. The Trump administration’s America First trade agenda will be transformational for communities across the country that have been hollowed out and watched millions of jobs be shipped overseas for decades.

Under the failed leadership of former President Joe Biden, our farmers and ranchers were stuck with a nearly $50 billion agricultural trade deficit, the worst in American history. Washington Democrats let our trading partners dictate the rules by which they would allow a scarce amount of American-made goods into their countries.

When Trump took office, his aggressive trade policy was met with widespread resistance and even mocked. But he has again proven the legacy media and talking heads in Washington wrong by bringing our trading partners to the table and securing historic wins for American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers.

In the past seven months, we have seen more wins for American exporters than in the past four years combined. Australia agreed to accept U.S. beef for the first time in two decades.

The United Kingdom eliminated its 20% tariff on U.S. beef and opened the door to 1.4 billion liters of American ethanol. Indonesia reversed course on long-standing non-tariff barriers and eliminated virtually all tariffs on American agricultural exports. Mexico lifted its unscientific ban on genetically modified corn. India slashed tariffs on iconic U.S. products like bourbon whiskey. China has agreed to resume exports of rare Earth minerals, securing access to these for American manufacturers. And in a massive victory for U.S. manufacturing, the Trump administration announced a deal with the European Union that will reduce red tape and expand access for American medical and industrial equipment.

The impact is real: the president has secured commitments for more than $5 trillion in new investments into the United States from the America First trade policy, and we are just getting started.

This is what happens when the world’s largest market demands that its trading partners stop taking advantage of American workers and farmers and start providing fair and reciprocal access to their markets. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill, which the president signed into law on Independence Day, builds on this momentum. It delivers the largest tax cut in U.S. history, expands the Child Tax Credit and other pro-family tax provisions to support working mothers and fathers, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, provides new tax relief to America’s farmers, and makes it easier for companies to invest, hire, and manufacture right here at home.

Together, pro-growth tax relief and an America First trade agenda fuel America’s comeback. That’s not a theory, it’s a fact, and the results are indisputable.

TRUMP’S NEWLY APPOINTED BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS HEAD EJ ANTONI SUGGESTS SUSPENDING MONTHLY JOB REPORTS

As Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, I am proud to stand with the president in delivering this new era of economic revival. Our committee has jurisdiction over U.S. trade policy, and we are working hand-in-hand with the Trump administration to build on these victories and ignite an economic boom unlike anything we have seen before.

American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers deserve a government that fights for them, not one that sells them out. President Donald Trump’s trade agenda proves that when we fight, we win. The days of being taken for granted are over.

Congressman Jason Smith represents Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District and is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
